“During my high school career, I did a fair amount of research of what I wanted to do as a career. I took interest inventories, researched the projected job market, etc. Based on my research, I came up with the notion that I wanted to be a Psychologist and that I wanted to earn my doctorate in Psychology. Thinking back, I chose Psychology because I have always had a natural curiosity about how the human-mind works. Why do people act differently? What behaviors are you born with and which ones are you taught? What happens psychologically to young men and women during puberty? I knew this at 17 and was ready to start on this endeavor as I entered post-secondary education…or so I thought. Upon sitting down with my parents and talking over my aspirations, my mother informed me that I should become an engineer.
